PTC thermistors

PTC thermistors have a positive temperature coefficient (TC) and are therefore
also frequently called PTC thermistors (PTC = Positive Temperature Coefficient).
Their resistance increases with increasing temperature. They consist of doped
ceramic materials based on barium titanate.
When current flows through the PTC thermistor, it heats up. This increases its
Resistance. This behavior can be used, among other things, for the purpose of overcurrent limi
and time delay can be exploited.
Further areas of application: the switching through of short-time current pulses (e. g. B.
for demagnetization of color picture tubes or for tempering of
induction motors) as well as the use as a heat source (heating element).
