Transient Voltage Suppressor Diodes |
Suppressor diodes, or transient voltage suppressor diodes (TVS diode) are used to protect electronic circuits from voltage pulses. Through switching operations or close flashes of lightning, voltages can arise at short intervals, which are sufficient to destroy semiconductor components in the circuit. Suppressor diodes become conductive when their breakdown voltage is exceeded. By parallel connection to a component to be protected, the impulse is dissipated, whereby no destructive voltage can build up. In this case, the latter is, in particular, completely neutral by virtue of low leakage current and capacitance outside an overvoltage event. |
